Why TV Networks Are Skipping Trump’s Birthday Parade

Okay, so here’s the deal: Donald Trump is throwing himself a big military parade in Washington, D.C., on June 14. It’s supposed to celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday, but let’s be real—it’s also Trump’s birthday, and it looks a lot like he’s trying to throw himself a giant ego party. Tanks, helicopters, military bands, the whole nine yards. But guess what? A bunch of major TV networks—like ABC, NBC, and CBS—have basically said, “No thanks, we’ll pass.”

So what’s going on here? Why aren’t they showing it live on prime-time TV? Let’s break it down.

First off, these networks have already got big stuff lined up for that night. We’re talking sports like the UFL Championship and the U.S. Open. That’s what folks actually want to watch. Let’s face it—a bunch of military trucks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue isn’t going to pull in the same kind of excitement. Networks know that, and they don’t want to lose viewers (and money) by airing something that most people would probably switch off.

Instead of putting it on the main channels, they’re just going to stream it online. So yeah, if you’re dying to watch it, you can still catch it—but you’ll have to go looking for it.

Another big reason? Trump and the mainstream media have never exactly been best buddies. He’s spent years calling them “fake news,” suing them, and bashing reporters. So it’s no surprise that the big three—ABC, NBC, and CBS—aren’t jumping at the chance to give him two hours of free airtime to show off military power on his birthday. It’s a little too political, a little too self-serving, and a little too weird for comfort.

Fox News and NewsNation, on the other hand, are all in. They’ll be airing it live in prime time, because of course they are.

And it’s not just the media giving this parade the cold shoulder. A bunch of Republican lawmakers are skipping it, too. According to The Daily Beast, only about seven out of 50 GOP members said they were planning to attend. Some said it felt too much like a “goose-stepping” authoritarian thing—you know, the kind of military parades you see in North Korea or Russia. Not a good look for America.

Senator Rand Paul even straight-up said he thought it was “un-American.” When people from your own party start backing away from your party, that’s usually a pretty big red flag.

Trump's birthday bash on Saturday (disguised as a military celebration) will have most of the big media companies skipping it. Not because they hate the troops—don’t fall for that line—but because:

1. People don’t want to watch it.
2. It’s super political.
3. It looks more like a vanity project than a national celebration.

Could that money be better spent helping the homeless, feeding the poor, or fixing up the VA? Absolutely. But when has Trump ever cared about that kind of thing?

The networks are doing what makes sense for them: sticking to what people actually want to see and avoiding a political mess. And honestly, it says a lot that even members of Trump’s own party are staying away. You can put tanks on the streets, but if nobody wants to watch, it’s just an expensive, empty spectacle.
