Stand with Ukraine: A Moral and Christian Duty in the Face of Evil

In a world flooded with political noise, moral clarity is rare. But some moments demand it. The war in Ukraine is one of those moments. Americans—especially Christian Americans—must cast aside indifference, partisanship, and misinformation and choose a side. That side is Ukraine. That side is with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the millions of Ukrainian men, women, and children fighting to survive against the demonic machinery of Vladimir Putin's war.

Zelenskyy, elected in 2019 by a wide majority, didn’t campaign to become a wartime leader. He promised reform, anti-corruption efforts, and peace. But when Russia launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022, Zelenskyy didn’t flee. He didn’t hide. He stayed in Kyiv, stared into a camera, and said what may become one of the defining lines of the 21st century: "I need ammunition, not a ride."

That is not the voice of a dictator. That is the voice of a shepherd protecting his flock.

The Christian Mandate to Defend the Oppressed

The Bible does not call Christians to neutrality in the face of evil. It calls us to act.

"Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." – Psalm 82:4
"Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow." – Isaiah 1:17

Ukrainians are under attack simply for existing. Their schools, hospitals, and homes have been bombed. Their children have been kidnapped. Their people have been raped and murdered. Russia’s actions are not the result of some geopolitical misunderstanding. They are sin, and they must be named as such.

This is a war of good versus evil. And Christians are not called to sit on the sidelines.

No, Zelenskyy Is Not a Dictator—But Putin Is

Former President Donald Trump has called Zelenskyy a "dictator." This is not only a lie—it is a dangerous one. Zelenskyy remains in office not through authoritarian power grabs, but because Ukraine is under martial law, as allowed by its constitution during war. Elections are on hold because bombs are falling and cities are burning. This is a time of defense, not democracy-building.

Let’s be clear: Zelenskyy was elected in a free and fair vote. And the Ukrainian people still support him. Polls from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology show his approval soared above 90% after the invasion and remains strong today. Meanwhile, Trump has praised actual tyrants—Putin, Kim Jong-un, and Viktor Orbán—men who jail opponents, silence press, and rule through fear.

When Trump slanders a man defending his people under siege, he is not speaking truth. He is doing the work of the oppressor.

Why Christians—and Americans—Must Care

This war is not just about Ukraine’s survival. It is about the survival of liberty, democracy, and decency in the face of rising authoritarianism worldwide. If Russia wins, every tyrant in the world gets the message that violence works, that borders mean nothing, and that democracies are weak.

We must resist this evil.

The Christian calling is not to comfort or convenience—it is to righteousness and truth. Supporting Ukraine is not just wise foreign policy. It is moral obedience.

America has long claimed to be a beacon of freedom. Let us act like it. Let us give, speak, vote, and pray for the people of Ukraine. Let us honor leaders who fight tyranny, not those who excuse it. And let us remember that the battle for Ukraine is a battle not only for territory but for the soul of the world.
