Trump Wants to Arrest His Political Opponent. Christians, Wake Up.

Let’s just be real for a second—Trump straight-up said he’d arrest Zohran Mamdani if Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for NYC mayor, doesn’t play ball with ICE. And no, that’s not a joke, not hyperbole, not left-wing spin. That’s what he said.

“If he doesn’t allow federal immigration officials to arrest immigrants in the city… we’ll have to arrest him.” That’s from Trump’s own mouth on July 1, 2025. (Axios)

Let me say this louder for the folks in the back: A Republican presidential front-runner just threatened to jail a Democrat for disagreeing with him.

That’s not normal. That’s not “just politics.” That’s straight-up authoritarian behavior. That’s dictator stuff. That’s what banana republics do—what Putin does. You don’t arrest your opponents for holding a different view about how to protect immigrants in their own city.

And here’s the kicker: Mamdani is a naturalized American citizen. A guy who made it through all the red tape, earned his place in this country, got elected by his community, and now wants to protect the people he serves. And Trump basically said, “Fall in line or get the handcuffs.”

What kind of message does that send? Disagree with the boss and you’re a criminal?

Trump is bullying him. Point blank. This is what a guy does when he’s losing moral authority and wants to scare people into silence. And listen, it’s not just Mamdani he’s coming after—it’s anyone who doesn’t agree with his twisted idea of what “law and order” looks like. Today it’s a Democrat mayor. Tomorrow it could be your pastor, your church, your city.

Christians—we have GOT to stop pretending this is okay.

If Joe Biden said he was going to arrest Ron DeSantis for refusing to implement climate laws, the right would explode. But when Trump threatens to jail his critics? Crickets. That silence? That’s complicity. And it’s exactly how democracy dies—slowly, quietly, with cheers from people who should’ve known better.

Let’s get something straight: Jesus didn’t cozy up to power-hungry tyrants. He rebuked the Pharisees, called out hypocrisy, and flipped tables in the temple. He said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them... Not so with you” (Matthew 20:25-26, NLT). In other words: You don’t get to act like Caesar just because you’re in charge.

Trump is acting like he wants to be king, not president. He’s already said he wants total immunity. He cheered on January 6. He praises dictators. Now he’s talking about arresting mayors who won’t let ICE terrorize their cities.

This is a test of the American soul. And it’s a test of the Christian witness. Because if we’re willing to stay silent when a leader bullies the vulnerable and threatens his enemies with jail, we’re not following Jesus—we’re following fear. Or worse, we’re following Trump like he’s a golden calf.

The Bible says in Proverbs 29:2, “When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.”
And Isaiah 10 hits hard: “Woe to those who make unjust laws… to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed.”

You can’t preach about righteousness on Sunday and cheer for a wannabe dictator on Monday.

And don’t forget what Paul said in Galatians 5:1: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Authoritarianism is slavery with a red hat.

So here it is: Christians need to wake up and speak out. We need to stop excusing evil just because it wears an elephant pin. And we need to stop confusing political convenience with biblical conviction.

If Trump gets away with this, what’s next? Arresting governors? Pastors? Journalists? You?

Silence is not an option. If we care about justice, freedom, and the name of Jesus—we’ve got to stand up.
