House Resolution 746 (H.Res.746)

Finally, Congress gets something right. Political violence in this country has gotten completely outrageous. While I disagreed with Charlie Kirk on certain points, he did not deserve to die in that way. He was a good man, a Christian, and definitely didn’t deserve to be gunned down. The resolution honors Kirk’s commitment to civil discourse while condemning the violent act that took his life¹.

H.Res.746 passed with 310 votes in favor and 58 against, reflecting broad support, though some Democrats opposed it due to Kirk’s controversial views². The resolution serves as a formal statement that violence and dehumanizing rhetoric have no place in American politics, and it emphasizes the need for civil discourse and respect across party lines².

In a country where political arguments too often escalate into violence, resolutions like H.Res.746 are an important reminder that disagreement should never justify harm. Charlie Kirk’s death was tragic and unnecessary, and Congress’s condemnation is a step toward acknowledging that political violence must be rejected—regardless of one’s political beliefs¹.

The 58 Democrats who voted against the resolution include Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pramila Jayapal, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, Ayanna Pressley, Cori Bush, and others³. This group faced backlash from Republicans and conservative groups, who accused them of politicizing the tragedy³.
