Another Nail in the Coffin: ICE's Gestapo-Like Tactics Must End



On September 19, 2025, Reverend David Black, a Presbyterian pastor from Chicago, was shot in the head with a pepper ball by ICE agents during a peaceful protest outside the Broadview ICE Processing Center. Captured on video, the incident shows Black collapsing after being struck. He claims the agents fired without warning while he was praying and alleges they were laughing during the attack.¹

This event is a stark reminder of how far ICE has strayed from its intended role. The use of such force against a peaceful protester is reminiscent of authoritarian regimes, drawing comparisons to the Gestapo. The fact that this occurred in the United States, under the guise of enforcing immigration laws, is deeply troubling.

In response, Reverend Black has joined a lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging violations of First and Fourth Amendment rights. A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting federal agents from using riot control weapons or physical force against journalists and peaceful protesters who do not pose a threat.²

This incident serves as another nail in the coffin for ICE if they believe they can continue employing such Gestapo-like tactics without consequence. The American public must demand accountability and ensure that such abuses of power are not tolerated.
