THE UNWORTHY ONES

It breaks my heart to see what’s happening to some of the most vulnerable kids in our country. The Department of Education, which should be there to protect every child, has been gutted under the Trump administration. Offices that oversee special education—the lifeline for students with disabilities—are being cut or eliminated¹ ² ³. This isn’t reform; this is a moral failure.

God tells us to defend the widow, the orphan, and those who can’t speak for themselves. And yet here we are: staff who enforce the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act—the law that guarantees every child an education—are being dismantled¹ ² ³. The message is clear: if your child doesn’t fit the mold, they don’t matter.

This isn’t just policy. It’s a rejection of God’s call to love and serve all His children, especially the ones the world often ignores. Removing oversight, delaying services, or forcing parents to fight for the care their kids need is turning away from God’s command to protect the innocent⁴ ⁵.

When these offices are gone or weakened, parents are left to navigate a system alone. Students may lose critical accommodations and therapies. Teachers are stretched beyond capacity. Laws meant to protect children become nothing more than words on paper⁶.

Jesus says in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Yet the actions we’re seeing actively hinder kids from getting the help they need. Children with disabilities are not burdens—they are blessings. They are created in God’s image, each with purpose and worth⁷.

A nation shows its character by how it treats its weakest members. America used to be a leader in protecting children and ensuring every student could thrive. By dismantling protections for special education, we’re showing a willingness to neglect God’s command to care for the helpless⁷ ⁸.

Education isn’t a privilege. It’s a right, and it’s God-given. Every child belongs to Him. When the state turns its back, we cannot stay silent. We have to speak up, pray, and act to protect His children⁹ ¹⁰.

Let’s stand up for the kids God entrusted to us. Let’s defend them. When we fail to protect His children, we fail Him.
